Do I Need a Visa to Visit Ghana?
A visa is required for most travellers entering Ghana. Exemptions apply to citizens of ECOWAS countries, nationals of other selected visa-exempt countries, certain diplomatic, service or official passport holders, and persons in direct airside transit. Travellers should confirm their visa status before booking flights or accommodation.
Available Visa Types (2026)
Ghana offers several types of visas depending on the traveller’s purpose of visit:

General Visa Requirements
All applicants, regardless of visa category, must provide the following:
- Valid passport for at least six months beyond the intended stay in Ghana.
- Completed and signed visa application form.
- A clear, recent passport-sized photo meeting standard visa photo guidelines.
- Proof of accommodation or host invitation letter.
- Financial means to be indicated; bank statements are not required unless specifically requested.
- Yellow Fever vaccination certificate.
- Visa fee payment receipt.
Visa Validity Periods
- Single Entry Visa: Valid for up to 90 days from the date of issue.

- Standard eVisa processing is 96 hours; standard mission applications take a minimum of five business days from the time the application is received at the Mission.
- 72hrs Express Service: 3 working days; Priority 24hrs service: 1 working day where available.
- Work and residence permits and student residence permits are handled by the Ghana Immigration Service and depend on the permit category and supporting documents.
Extending Your Visa
Visa or permit extensions can be requested through the Ghana Immigration Service before the permitted stay expires.
The Ghana Immigration Service may extend a visitor’s visa or permit for an initial period of three months and up to a maximum of six months.
