All travellers applying for a Ghana visa must meet the general requirements set by the Ghana Immigration Service and the Ghana High Commission. These requirements apply to visa routes including Visitor, Business, Student, Transit, and eVisa applications, for the year 2026.


Basic Entry Requirements

To enter Ghana, applicants must meet the following general conditions:

  • Hold a valid passport with at least six (6) months of validity beyond the intended stay in Ghana.
  • Have at least one blank page available for visa endorsement.
  • Indicate financial means and provide evidence of sufficient funds if required.
  • Possess a valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate or records indicating protection from Yellow Fever, unless medically exempt.
  • Hold a return or onward ticket showing intent to leave Ghana.
  • Not fall within Ghana’s prohibited immigrant categories.

Documents Required for All Visa Types

The following general documents may be required, with additional documents depending on visa type and application route:

  • Completed and signed visa application form.
  • A clear, recent colour passport-sized photo meeting standard visa photo guidelines.
  • Valid passport for at least six months beyond the intended stay in Ghana.
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or host invitation letter).
  • Financial means to be indicated; evidence of sufficient funds may be required.
  • Flight booking or travel itinerary.
  • Yellow Fever vaccination certificate or records indicating protection from Yellow Fever, unless medically exempt.
  • Visa fee payment receipt.

Additional Requirements by Visa Type

Visitor Visa

  • Travel itinerary and proof of accommodation, or invitation letter from a Ghanaian host where applicable.
  • Proof of relationship where applicable.

Business Visa

  • Letter of introduction from employer or sponsoring organisation.
  • Invitation letter from business partner or company in Ghana.
  • Proof of business registration or trade license (if applicable).

Student Visa

  • Letter of acceptance from an institution in Ghana.
  • Letter stating the purpose of visit and financial means whilst in Ghana.

Transit Visa

  • Confirmed onward ticket to a third destination.
  • Valid visa for final destination (if required).

Photo Specifications

  • Passport-sized photo meeting standard visa photo guidelines.
  • White or off-white background.
  • Neutral facial expression (no smiling).
  • No headwear unless for religious or medical reasons.
  • Must be taken within the last six months.

Health & Vaccination Requirements

  • Yellow Fever vaccination certificate or records indicating protection from Yellow Fever are required for travellers aged above 9 months entering or transiting through Ghana, unless medically exempt.
  • Travellers should check health advice for recommended vaccinations before travel.
  • Applicants should ensure their general health is sufficient for travel.

Processing & Appointment Notes

  • Appointments may be required for biometric enrolment or document verification.
  • Standard eVisa processing is 96 hours; Ghana High Commission London standard service processing is 5 working days.
  • 72hrs Express Service and 24hrs Priority Service are available where offered.

Proof of Funds Requirement

Applicants must indicate financial means and may be required to show evidence of sufficient funds for their stay in Ghana.
Acceptable forms include:

  • Evidence of sufficient funds, if required.
  • Pay slips or employment confirmation letter.
  • Letter of sponsorship with proof of sponsor’s financial capacity.

  • Use recent, clear photographs that meet size specifications.
