How to apply for a Vietnam visa
For most travellers, applying for a Vietnam visa means applying for the e-visa on the official National e-Visa portal. The steps below are the general shape of the process; your exact requirements depend on your nationality and purpose of travel, so always confirm against the official portal and Vietnam Immigration Department pages linked on this page.
Check whether you need a visa
Citizens of certain countries are exempt from a Vietnam visa for short stays. Start with the official Vietnam Immigration Department guidance to find out whether an exemption applies to you or whether you need to apply for an e-visa.
Apply for the e-visa online
The e-visa is available to citizens of all countries and territories through the National e-Visa portal at evisa.gov.vn. Apply on the official portal only โ it is the standard route for regular visitors.
Provide what the portal asks for
The portal asks for your passport details, a photo and other information. Follow the checklist on the official National e-Visa portal for exactly what to provide.
Visa on Arrival is emergencies only
Visa on Arrival is intended only for emergency situations โ for example where there is no nearby Vietnamese mission or complex transit. Regular visitors should use the e-visa rather than rely on Visa on Arrival.
