  3. Schengen Visa Digital Document Upload Guide (2026)

Applicants for a Schengen Visa can now upload their supporting documents online before attending their appointment at a Visa Application Centre (VAC). This digital upload option, available through VFS Global and TLScontact, streamlines the process and reduces the need to submit paper copies in person.

Why Use Digital Upload?

The digital document upload service allows applicants to submit documents electronically before their biometric appointment. This helps speed up application processing and ensures that your materials are available to the embassy or consulate for pre-assessment.

Uploading documents online means:

  • Less time spent at your appointment.
  • Reduced risk of missing or lost paperwork.
  • Faster initial processing by visa officers.
  • Greater convenience, you can upload from home.

How the Digital Upload Process Works

  1. Complete your Schengen Visa application form and pay the applicable fees.
  2. Book your appointment at your chosen Visa Application Centre.
  3. Log into your VFS Global or TLScontact account after booking.
  4. Select the “Upload Documents” option under your application reference.
  5. Upload the required files in the correct format (PDF, JPEG, or DOCX).
  6. Confirm your uploads and print your document checklist for reference.

Documents You Can Upload

While requirements vary slightly between Schengen countries, most applicants should upload the following:

  • Completed application form and signed declaration.
  • Passport bio-data page and previous visa copies.
  • Travel itinerary or confirmed flight booking.
  • Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter).
  • Travel insurance meeting Schengen requirements.
  • Proof of financial means for the duration of stay.
  • Employment or student status documentation.

Important Tips for Successful Upload

  • Make sure each file is clear, readable, and under 2MB in size.
  • Use descriptive filenames (e.g. “Passport.pdf”, “BankStatement.pdf”).
  • Do not upload encrypted or password-protected files.
  • Double-check that every document matches your application details.

What Happens After You Upload

Once your documents are uploaded, they are automatically shared with the embassy or consulate handling your visa. You will still need to attend your biometric appointment in person for fingerprint and photo collection. Bring your original documents to the appointment in case they are requested for verification.

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

If you experience technical issues while uploading your files, try the following:

  • Use a desktop or laptop device instead of a mobile phone.
  • Ensure your internet connection is stable.
  • Check that your files are not too large or in an unsupported format.
  • If problems persist, contact the VFS Global or TLScontact support team via your account.
