An Iceland Business Visa is a short-stay Schengen visa for visa-required third-country nationals travelling to Iceland for permitted short-term business activities, such as meetings, conferences, trade negotiations or professional events. It is issued under the Schengen short-stay visa framework and may permit stays of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. It does not permit paid employment in Iceland.
At Visa Applications, we can assist with the Iceland Business Visa process, including eligibility assessment, document preparation and appointment guidance. Official visa decisions are made by the competent Icelandic authority or by a Schengen state representing Iceland. Visa services are handled by Iceland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Icelandic missions or authorised representatives, not by the Directorate of Immigration.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate that they intend to visit Iceland solely for legitimate business purposes and will leave the Schengen Area before visa expiry. To qualify, you must:
- Hold a valid passport or travel document issued within the last 10 years, valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from the Schengen area, and containing at least two blank pages.
- Provide evidence of the business purpose, such as an invitation letter or confirmation from an Icelandic company, event organiser or business contact, explaining the purpose, dates and nature of the visit.
- Show proof of financial means to cover travel and accommodation expenses.
- Provide valid travel medical insurance covering emergency medical care, hospitalisation and repatriation, valid throughout the Schengen area and for the whole intended stay, with minimum coverage of EUR 30,000.
- Have no record of previous Schengen visa violations or overstays.
Documents Required for a Business Visa
- Completed and signed Iceland visa application form.

- Valid passport or travel document issued within the last 10 years, valid for at least 3 months after the planned departure from the Schengen area, and containing at least two blank pages.

- Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or company-provided lodging).
- Evidence of financial stability (bank statements or employer letter).
- Travel itinerary or return/onward flight reservation showing planned travel dates. Tickets do not usually need to be paid for unless the relevant visa authority specifically requires this.

Application Process
Applications are submitted through the relevant Icelandic embassy or consulate, visa application centre, or foreign embassy or consulate representing Iceland in the country where you legally reside. Applicants should check the official Iceland “where to apply” guidance for the correct application location. At Visa Applications, we can help prepare your documents and provide appointment guidance, but the official application must be lodged through the competent authority or authorised visa application centre.
- Prepare all required documents and digital copies.
- Submit your pre-checked information through our secure system so we can help you prepare before you lodge the official visa application with the competent authority or authorised visa application centre.
- Attend your biometric appointment (fingerprints and photo).
- Wait for processing. The normal Schengen visa processing time is 15 calendar days after an admissible application is lodged. This may be extended up to 45 calendar days if a more detailed examination or additional documents are required.
Duration and Validity
An Iceland Business Visa may permit a stay of up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The validity, permitted duration of stay, territorial validity and number of entries are shown on the visa sticker. Multiple-entry visas may be granted to eligible frequent business travellers, but the decision is made by the competent visa authority.
Common Reasons for Refusal
- Insufficient proof of business purpose or invitation authenticity.
- Financial documentation not meeting Schengen standards.
- Previous overstays or incomplete visa history.
- Missing insurance or incorrect travel dates.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I work on an Iceland Business Visa?
No. You may attend meetings or negotiations but not take paid employment.
Can I extend my visa while in Iceland?
Extensions are only granted in limited circumstances. Iceland states that a visa issued for less than 90 days may be extended for force majeure, humanitarian reasons or serious personal reasons, but a visa issued for 90 days cannot be extended and stays generally cannot exceed 90 days in any 180-day period.
How long does processing take?
The normal Schengen visa processing time is 15 calendar days after an admissible application is lodged. This may be extended up to 45 calendar days if a more detailed examination or additional documents are required.
Do I need a local sponsor?
You normally need evidence of the business purpose, such as an invitation letter or confirmation from an Icelandic company, event organiser or business contact. The exact document requirements depend on the visa authority or application centre handling the application.
