This page has been reviewed and verified by Michael Gibbons, Regulated Immigration Advisor. You can confirm details through Our Canada Visa Guidance.

The Canada Visa Documents Checklist (2026) helps applicants prepare a complete and compliant visa submission. Whether you’re applying for a visitor, work, or study visa—or attending the World Cup 2026—submitting all required documents correctly is essential to avoid delays or refusals.

Mandatory Documents for All Visa Types

  • Completed Visa Application Form (IMM 5257 or relevant type)
  • Valid Passport – at least six months remaining validity
  • Two Passport-Sized Photos meeting Canada photo requirements
  • Proof of Funds – bank statements, payslips, or sponsorship letter
  • Proof of Travel Purpose – letter of invitation, hotel booking, or event confirmation
  • Travel History – copies of previous visas or entry/exit stamps
  • Visa Fee Payment Receipt

Visitor Visa Applicants

  • Travel itinerary (flight and accommodation details)
  • Letter of invitation (if visiting friends or family)
  • Employment or study proof (to show home ties)
  • Bank statements from the last 3–6 months

Work Visa Applicants

  • Job offer letter or employment contract from a Canadian employer
  • Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), if applicable
  • Proof of qualifications or work experience
  • Police clearance certificate (if required)
  • Medical exam results (if applicable)

Study Visa Applicants

  • Letter of Acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)
  • Proof of tuition fee payment
  • Academic transcripts and certificates
  • Proof of sufficient funds for living expenses
  • Letter of explanation (purpose of study and future plans)

World Cup 2026 Visa Applicants

  • Proof of event ticket purchase or official accreditation
  • Hotel or accommodation booking for the event duration
  • Proof of return or onward travel
  • Proof of funds sufficient for the stay
  • Letter from employer or sports organisation (if applicable)

Supporting Documents (Optional but Recommended)

  • Travel insurance policy
  • Cover letter summarising your application purpose
  • Property ownership proof or rental agreement (home ties)
  • Marriage or birth certificates (for family applications)

Biometric and Medical Requirements

Most applicants aged 14–79 must provide biometric data (fingerprints and photo). Depending on your visa type and country of residence, you may also need to undergo a medical examination by an IRCC-approved panel physician.

Document Submission Tips

  • Scan documents clearly in PDF format for online submissions.
  • Ensure all names and dates are consistent across documents.
  • Do not submit original documents unless specifically requested.
  • Translate non-English documents using certified translators.

Checklist for Submission (Before You Apply)

  1. Complete all visa application forms and double-check entries.
  2. Upload or attach all required supporting documents.
  3. Pay the visa and biometric fees in full.
  4. Submit your biometrics appointment confirmation (if applicable).
  5. Keep a digital and printed copy of your entire application package.
