This page has been reviewed and verified by Michael Gibbons, Regulated Immigration Advisor. You can confirm details through Our Canada Visa Guidance.

The Canada Visa Appointment (2026) process is a required step for most applicants, especially those providing biometrics or submitting documents in person at a Visa Application Centre (VAC). This page explains how to book, prepare for, and attend your visa appointment, including special scheduling considerations for World Cup 2026 visitors.

Who Needs a Visa Appointment?

You must attend a visa appointment if:

  • You are required to provide biometrics (fingerprints and a photo).
  • You are submitting a paper application or original documents in person.
  • You are asked by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to appear for an interview.

How to Book a Visa Appointment

  1. Complete and submit your Canada Visa Application Form online.
  2. Pay the visa and biometric fees (CAD $100 + CAD $85).
  3. Receive a Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL) from IRCC.
  4. Visit the VFS Global website to schedule your appointment at the nearest Visa Application Centre (VAC).
  5. Print your appointment confirmation and bring it to the VAC along with required documents.

Documents to Bring to Your Appointment

  • Original passport
  • Visa application confirmation and payment receipt
  • Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL)
  • Two passport-size photographs (if required)
  • Proof of accommodation, funds, and travel plans
  • Supporting documents such as invitation letters or event tickets (for World Cup attendees)

Appointment Duration and Processing

Visa appointments typically take 15–30 minutes for biometrics and document verification. After completion, your documents are securely forwarded to the IRCC office for further processing. You will receive an email notification once your visa decision is available.

Rescheduling or Cancelling Your Appointment

If you cannot attend your scheduled appointment, log in to your VFS Global account to reschedule or cancel it. It is recommended to make any changes at least 48 hours before your appointment time.

World Cup 2026 Appointment Guidance

Due to increased application volumes ahead of the World Cup 2026, early booking is strongly advised. Priority appointment slots may be released for accredited athletes, officials, and media personnel. Applicants should include event ticket confirmations or accreditation when scheduling their appointments.

For more details, refer to Visa for the World Cup 2026.

Tips for a Smooth Appointment

  • Arrive at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time.
  • Bring printed copies of your documents.
  • Dress neatly and be polite with VAC staff.
  • Do not bring companions unless required for assistance.
  • Double-check your email for biometric submission confirmation after the appointment.
