Visa fees for Romania are set by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) and aligned with EU Regulation (EC) No. 810/2009, the Schengen Visa Code.
Fees vary depending on the type of visa, applicant’s nationality, and whether the application is made directly to an embassy or through an authorised service provider such as VFS Global.

Service Charges (VFS Global)
If you apply through VFS Global instead of directly at a Romanian embassy or consulate, additional service fees will apply:
- Service charge: €25–€35 (varies by location).
- Courier service: €10–€15 (optional).
- SMS or email updates: €2–€3 (optional).
- Premium Lounge (where available): €40–€50 (optional).
Accepted Payment Methods
Visa and service fees can be paid using:
- Credit or debit card (in local currency equivalent).
- Bank transfer (where authorised).
- Cash payment at the embassy or VFS centre.
Fees are payable in the local currency equivalent and are non-refundable even if your application is refused or withdrawn.
Who Is Exempt from Paying Visa Fees
The following categories are exempt from Romania visa fees:
- Children under 6 years of age.
- Family members of EU/EEA citizens exercising free movement rights.
- Students and accompanying teachers travelling for study or training purposes.
- Researchers from third countries conducting scientific work within the EU framework.
- Representatives of non-profit organisations under the age of 25 attending seminars, conferences, or cultural/sporting events.
Refund Policy
Romanian visa fees are non-refundable under any circumstance once payment has been processed.
Refunds are only considered if the applicant made duplicate payments or was instructed to do so in error by an embassy.
Additional Costs
In addition to the standard visa fee, you may incur:
- Translation and legalisation costs for documents.
- Medical certificates or insurance fees.
- Postage or courier expenses for passport delivery.
