Foreign nationals travelling to Romania for business meetings, trade fairs, or professional activities must apply for a Romania Business Visa (Type C). This visa allows short-term stays for business-related purposes without the right to take up employment in Romania. It is regulated under Government Emergency Ordinance No. 194/2002 and follows the framework of the Schengen Visa Code (EU Regulation 810/2009).
Who Needs a Romania Business Visa
You must apply for a Romania Business Visa if you:
- Are a citizen of a country that is not exempt from Romania’s visa requirements.
- Intend to visit Romania for business meetings, negotiations, conferences, or trade visits.
- Do not hold a valid Schengen visa, UK residence permit, or EU residence card that allows entry to Romania visa-free.
Citizens of Schengen countries, the EU/EEA, the UK, and countries such as the USA, Canada, and Australia do not need a Romania visa for short-term business visits of up to 90 days within any 180-day period.
Visa Validity and Duration
The Romania Business Visa is a short-stay (C-type) visa issued for a maximum of 90 days in a 180-day period.
It may be granted for:
- Single entry: One visit only.
- Double entry: Two business trips.
- Multiple entry: For frequent business travel (valid for up to one year).
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for a business visa, applicants must:
- Provide an invitation letter from a Romanian company, business partner, or conference organiser approved by the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI).
- Show proof of sufficient funds to cover travel, accommodation, and expenses during the stay.
- Provide evidence of ongoing business or professional activity in their home country.
- Hold valid travel health insurance covering at least €30,000 in medical expenses.
- Hold a passport valid for at least three months beyond the intended stay.
Documents Required
Applicants must submit:
- Completed visa application form via the Romania eVisa Portal.
- Valid passport (issued within the last 10 years).
- Recent passport-size photographs.
- Letter of invitation from a Romanian business entity or chamber of commerce.
- Proof of business registration (for both the applicant’s and host’s companies).
- Evidence of financial means (bank statements, company accounts, or employment confirmation).
- Travel and accommodation arrangements.
- Travel health insurance with €30,000 coverage minimum.
How to Apply for a Romania Business Visa
Applications are submitted online through the Romania eVisa system and finalised in person at the applicant’s nearest Romanian embassy or VFS Global centre. The process includes:
- Filling in the electronic application form and uploading documents.
- Booking an appointment at a Romanian embassy or VFS centre.
- Submitting biometrics and original documents in person.
- Paying the visa fee and receiving a tracking reference number.
- Collecting the passport once the visa is issued.
Fees and Processing Times
- Visa fee: €80 for adults, €40 for children aged 6 to 11, and free for children under 6.
- Processing time: 10–15 working days, depending on nationality and embassy workload.
- Priority applications: Not available for business visas, apply early.
After Arrival
Business travellers must comply with Romanian immigration requirements, including:
- Entering and exiting Romania within the authorised visa period.
- Not engaging in employment or paid work activities.
- Carrying a copy of their invitation letter when attending official events or company visits.
Extending a Business Visa
Extensions for business visas are rarely granted except in exceptional circumstances (e.g., cancelled return flights or medical emergencies).
