Proof of Funds for a Luxembourg Visa (2025)
This page has been reviewed and verified by Michael Gibbons, UK Solicitor and Regulated Immigration Advisor, to ensure accuracy under current EU and Luxembourg immigration guidance. You can confirm current rates and costs through our Luxembourg Visa Application Guide.
When applying for a Luxembourg visa, applicants must show sufficient financial means to support themselves during their stay. Proof of funds demonstrates that you can pay for accommodation, transportation, meals, and other daily expenses without becoming a financial burden on the country.
Minimum Financial Requirement (2025)
As of 2025, Luxembourg requires that visitors demonstrate access to a minimum of **€100 per day** for their stay. Applicants must show evidence that this amount is readily available and legally obtained.
Acceptable Forms of Proof of Funds
You may submit one or more of the following documents to demonstrate sufficient financial means:
- Recent Bank Statements: Showing regular income and sufficient balance for the duration of your trip.
- Salary Slips or Employment Letters: Proof of steady income or ongoing employment.
- Tax Returns: Official income verification for self-employed applicants.
- Credit Card Statements: Demonstrating available credit limits.
- Traveller’s Cheques or Prepaid Cards: Valid as supplementary proof of funds.
- Sponsorship or Invitation Letter: When expenses are covered by a host or third party.
See also: Sponsorship Letter Guide (2025).
Bank Statement Requirements
When submitting bank statements:
- They must cover the last three months.
- Statements must show the applicant’s name and account number.
- They must be printed, stamped, or digitally certified by the bank.
- Joint account holders must provide consent from the co-owner (if applicable).
Proof of Funds for Sponsored Applicants
If your expenses will be covered by another person or organisation, include:
- A signed sponsorship letter confirming support.
- Copy of the sponsor’s ID or residence permit.
- Bank statements or payslips from the sponsor showing adequate income.
- Proof of relationship (if family-based support).
Proof of Funds for Students or Long-Stay Applicants
Applicants for study or long-stay visas must provide:
- Proof of tuition payment or scholarship confirmation.
- Evidence of living expenses coverage for the entire study period (approximately €1,200 per month).
- Bank statement from student or sponsor (for dependents).
See: Documents Checklist (2025).
Documents Not Accepted as Proof of Funds
Avoid submitting:
- Handwritten financial records or informal bank letters.
- Unverified online screenshots without official bank seals.
- Cash declarations without documentation.
Tips for Submitting Financial Evidence
- Submit original or certified copies, not scans or photocopies.
- Ensure all financial evidence is less than one month old at the time of submission.
- Translate documents into English or French if issued in another language.
- Combine multiple sources of income for stronger financial credibility.
Example: Financial Summary for a 10-Day Luxembourg Visit
For a 10-day stay:
- Minimum requirement: €100 x 10 days = €1,000.
- Recommended to show at least €1,500 to demonstrate stability.
This ensures coverage of travel, meals, and emergency costs.
