Visa processing times for Iceland vary depending on the applicant’s location, the type of visa, and the time of year. All Iceland visa applications are processed in accordance with the Schengen Visa Code (Regulation 810/2009) and are reviewed either by Icelandic embassies or representing Schengen states such as Denmark or Norway.

Average Processing Times

In 2025, the following timeframes apply to most visa categories:

• Tourist Visa: 15 to 20 calendar days after document submission.
• Business Visa: 15 to 25 days depending on company verification.
• Family or Dependant Visa: 30 to 60 days, as supporting documents require additional review.
• Student or Long-Stay Visa: 6 to 12 weeks (via Directorate of Immigration).
• Medical Visa: 10 to 15 days for urgent cases.

Processing time begins once all required documents and biometric data have been received by the embassy.

Factors Affecting Processing Time

Visa processing may take longer in the following cases:

• Incomplete or inconsistent application documents.

What to Do if Your Visa Is Delayed

If your visa is still being processed after the stated timeframe:
