When applying for an Iceland Schengen Visa, applicants must submit a set of mandatory documents to verify their identity, travel purpose, and financial stability. The checklist below reflects the latest 2025 requirements approved by the Icelandic Directorate of Immigration (UTL) and the Schengen Visa Code (Regulation 810/2009).
Mandatory Documents for All Applicants
Every Iceland visa application must include:
- Visa application form: Completed, printed, and signed by the applicant.
- Valid passport: Issued within the last 10 years and valid for at least 3 months after intended departure from the Schengen Area.
- Passport-sized photographs: Two identical photos (3.5 x 4.5 cm) taken within the last six months.
- Proof of travel insurance: Covering at least €30,000 for medical emergencies and repatriation.
- Proof of accommodation: Hotel reservation, rental agreement, or invitation letter from a host in Iceland.
- Travel itinerary: Round-trip flight booking or travel plan covering all Schengen destinations.
- Proof of financial means: Bank statements for the past three months or sponsorship letter.
- Visa fee payment receipt: Confirmation of payment at the embassy or VFS Global.
Additional Documents by Visa Type
Depending on the purpose of your visit, you must include specific supporting documents.
Tourist Visa
- Hotel booking or proof of other accommodation for entire stay.
- Detailed travel plan with sightseeing or tour itinerary.
- Proof of return ticket or confirmed travel reservation.
Business Visa
- Invitation letter from Icelandic company or conference organiser.
- Company registration and tax documents (for business sponsors).
- Proof of previous business relations (if applicable).
Family or Dependant Visa
- Marriage certificate or birth certificate (translated into English or Icelandic).
- Proof of Icelandic sponsor’s legal residence or citizenship.
- Evidence of financial support from the sponsor.
Student Visa
- Acceptance letter from recognised Icelandic educational institution.
- Proof of paid tuition fees or scholarship confirmation.

Medical Visa

Transit Visa
- Valid visa or entry permit for the destination country.
- Flight booking showing Iceland as a transit point.
- Proof of onward travel within 24 hours (for airport transit visa).
Documents for Minors
Applicants under 18 years old must also provide:
- Birth certificate and copies of both parents’ passports.
- Consent letter signed by both parents or legal guardians.
- Proof of school enrolment or letter from current educational institution.
Translation and Authentication
All non-English or non-Icelandic documents must be translated by a certified translator.
